In an unusual move for Apple, it has made a release without much of a song and dance. The company has quietly announced that the 15 inch MacBook Pro will now come with an anti-glare screen upgrade option for £40.
But why has Apple released this on the sly? The price itself seems reasonable, until you consider that the MacBook used to come with a matte screen before gloss was in. Apple’s decision to now charge users for what was an original feature has left a number of Mac Rumour Forums users aghast.
For those of you not sure what all the fuss is about, the new antiglare display with matte finish is mainly aimed at those with a David Bailey aspiration, as glossy screens can make it difficult to match on-screen colours to printed results.
It also makes checking your emails easier when you’re out trying to get a tan with the sun streaming down on you and your MacBook.
The new antiglare screen will feature a silver bezel border, similar to what was found on previous generation aluminum MacBook Pros. The glossy displays will keep to the now standard shiny black borders, making it obvious as to which camp you belong in.
An antiglare display has been available on the 17 inch MacBook Pro for awhile now, but there’s no word on whether it will become an option on the 13 inch model. If it does, we can be sure you’ll have to fork out for it.
