It’s all about you. Or, at least, it was. Twitter used to be “a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”
Now, the newest and fastest growing ‘social media’ giant has had a change of heart: claiming to be a place to “share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world”. Is there a difference?
Well, dont expect Twitter to be any different- it’ll still be functioning in exactly the same way with the user driving the experience-but now Twitter has moved its goal to being all about ‘you’ to being about the world. Could this be due to its increasing use as a platform for citizen journalism?
With that in mind, the future of Twitter looks to be following the same path with a different mission- the creators have obviously found a new way to try and be the first social media website with a billion users.
The new Twitter homepage, below, draws in new users instantly by showing them what the Twittershphere is tweeting about. The trending topics, usually confined to a top 10 when logged in, now number 23 and display to casual viewers what everyone is conversing about.
Twitter is undoubtedly on a planned route to the top of its game. After its cull of spam accounts last week, Twitter’s master plan seems to be coming to fruition. Stay tuned for more changes.
