What Will Apple’s New Touchscreen Tablet Be Called? iTablet?

iPod TabletAs we reported a few days ago, Apple are planning on launching a touchscreen tablet this year similar to the iPod and iPhone but on a larger scale (with a 10″ screen) and with new interactive booklets, sleeve notes and other interactive features to boast album downloads. The question is now what will it be called?

Many of Apple’s products start with ‘i’ like in iPhone or iPod. There is also iTunes and iLife and maybe some lesser known i’s like iWorks, iSight (the now discontinued web cam) and iPhoto. So using this nomenclature what could the new tablet be called?

The most obvious one (and also the most popular according to Google Trends) is iTablet. But this is more of a generic name and isn’t really the snappy marketing name that Apple will want. By the way, the official code-name for this device is “Cocktail” but I don’t think we will see iCocktail as the name.

Other possible names are iTab or iPad or iPage. However Apple may also want to capitalize on the iPod branding so like there is an iPod Touch, iPod Nano, iPad Classic etc maybe this new device will be an iPod Page or iPod Tablet or even iPod Slate.

It is possible that rather than using the iPod branding Apple will try to use the Mac branding giving birth to the iMac Tablet or similar, but since it is likely that the device will resemble the iPhone and iPod Touch rather than the Mac this type of branding is unlikely.

On the comical side there have been suggestions that the device could be called the the iAmNotNewton which opens the door to a whole bag of possibilities like iAmGoingToSellLikeHotCakes or iAmGoingToBeExpensive.

What do you think? Why not give your suggestions below.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
