If a phone without a keyboard just isn’t a phone to you, the latest offering from Nokia will keep your typing thumbs happy. The Nokia 6760 slide is the European vairiant of the Nokia Surge recently announced for the U.S. market, and it looks like we got the better end of the trans-Atlantic stick.
It’s not just about a cosmetic name-change, the 6760 does have a bit more stored under the bonnet. The most notable difference is the 6760 slide’s 3.2 megapixel camera instead of the 2.0 megapixel Surge.
Upfront, the 6760 slide comes with a full QWERTY keyboard and a 2.4 inch screen. You get the option of saving your favorite media to microSD cards, and Nokia have thoughtfully thrown in a 2GB card in-box.
Battery-wise, Nokia look to have excelled when others have fallen, and have promised a monstrous 500 hours on standby. That’s almost a short month!
The main selling point of this new handset though is its messaging and email capabilities. The 6760 has Exchange support as well as access to Ovi Mail, Gmail, Yahoo! and Windows Live Hotmail. Setting up an existing email account has been made as simple as humanly possible, as you will only need to provide your email address and password and that’s it.
In addition, there are also push email capabilities through the Nokia Messaging service.
While on the go, you can pinpoint your location using aGPS technology, which is used with the integrated Nokia Maps application, so there’s no need to spend hours wandering the streets to try to find the right Red Lion pub everyone’s at.
The Nokia 6760 slide will all have pre-installed Facebook, MySpace and Twitter apps so everyone can know exactly when you get on the bus for work, arrive at work, make an earl grey tea…
The new phone will hit the shops by September this year and is expected to be priced around the £180 mark.
