Gamers look like they need to keep hold of their day jobs as the relatively costly PlayStation 3 isn’t going to be coming down in price any time soon.playstation3

Rumours of a PS3 price cut have been circulating for awhile now, finally culminating in Bobby Kotick, the CEO of games developer Activision, giving his opinion on the matter last month.

Kotick said Sony would have to drop the console’s price, ‘because if they don’t, the attach rates are likely to slow. If we are being realistic, we might have to stop supporting Sony.’

Sony CEO Howard Stringer has responded by basically sweeping the whole matter under the carpet.

“He likes to make a lot of noise,” said Stringer. “He’s putting pressure on me and I’m putting pressure on him. That’s the nature of business.”

When asked if it was logical in the current financial market to keep prices at their current market-high levels, he responded: “I (would) lose money on every PlayStation I make – how’s that for logic?”

While this seems to lead to the obvious- that PS3 consoles aren’t going to get any cheaper anytime soon, it’s also worth considering that even if Sony is planning a price drop for later this year, its certainly not going to say that now – current sales will plummet.

Have you been considering parting with a week’s worth of wages for a gaming console? Leave us a comment and let us know.
