Lenovo has released details of its new 14 inch business laptop the ThinkPad T400. The T400 has a carbon fibre shell, inspired by Lenovo’s featherweight ThinkPad X300, making it quite thin (only 2.1 cm) and relatively light. At the same time the T400 is no performance slouch. The T400 comes with the Intel 2.53 GHz Core2Duo processor, 2GB of memory (which is upgradable to 4GB) and a range of solid state drive storage up to 128 GB or if you prefer a 250 GB hard drive.

Lenovo is quite proud of their carbon fibre monocoque which they call the “Top Cover Roll Cage” which Lenovo first introduced in the ThinkPad X300 laptop. The roll cage’s monocoque carbon reinforced fiber, also used in bicycle frames and airplanes, helps keep the laptop light yet sturdy.

The 14.1-inch LED-backlit screen, which is powered by the Intel GMA 4500MHD, provides a native resolution of 1440 x 900. Other features of the T400 are 9.5 mm slim DVD burner or Blu-Ray player, Ethernet, WiFi, an integrated 2.0-megapixel webcam and optional WiMAX2 and Bluetooth connectivity.

The T400 is a business laptop and has support for Lenovo’s ConstantConnect and Protect technology that allows users to maximize integration of their BlackBerry smartphone. It also has a dock connector on the bottom and a fingerprint scanner.

Battery life is reported at nearly six hours and it meets the criteria for energy efficiency for Energy Star 5.0.

US pricing starts at $1,599 (£980) for the basic model. There is no word on UK pricing and availability.
