Disney and Asus have teamed together to produce a new netbook that is designed for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Disney and Asus are hoping that the Netpal will be fun, web-safe and easy to use. The netbook, which has both watchful parents and curious kids in mind, includes more than 40 robust parental control options and extra filters on the Browsers and email. These extra filters assure that parents are able to control online safety and content for their children, and can easily select with whom their children can correspond via email.

The Netpal has an 8.9-inch LCD display, Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and uses a 1.6GHz Intel Atom along with 1GB of memory. For storage there is a choice of 16GB SSD or 160GB HDD. The 16GB SSD version will only be available exclusively at Toys “R” Us.

It comes with Windows XP Home and includes Disney Magic Desktop an easy-to-use interface specifically tailored to kids, with an intuitive visual interface and instructions that make it easy for kids to operate the computer. Other kid-friendly features include a collection of 15 easily accessible widgets and customizable themes inspired by popular characters from Disney's and Disney∙Pixar's most popular franchises, including Cars, Club Penguin, Disney Classic Characters, Disney Fairies, Disney Princess, Vintage Mickey Mouse, Toy Story and WALL-E.

  • This is a great idea for kids to get their hands on their own laptop that is aimed at their age range.

Much more engaging than my old Solitaire days on Dad’s work computer!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
