I must admit I am a bit of a flash drive fan. I don’t think you can have too many of them. I remember my first, a measly 64MB (that is megabytes not gigabytes). Flash drives have been growing in size and it was inevitable that a 128GB flash drive would arrive one day. Well, Kingston have done it. They have just announced the release of the DataTraveler® 200 (DT200), the world’s first 128GB USB Flash drive.
Andrew Ewing, USB business manager at Kingston had this to say, “The new DT200’s robust storage capability lets consumers store complete libraries of music, photos and videos. It is also a great tool for business users who carry around large databases or files.”
As well as the large capacity, the DT200 also has password protection via some software which is supplied on the disk. To run the special password protection program (which is only available for Windows) no admin rights are required which means that “normal” users can safeguard their data.
The DT200 is available in 32-, 64- and 128GB capacities. But here is the crunch, the 128GB drive is build-to-order only and costs $546.00 in the US. There is no word on UK pricing yet. The DT200 comes with a five-year warranty and 24/7 tech support.
