Last year HP and MTV held their Engine Room Notebook Design Contest. The competition was won by the 27-year-old Japanese designer Hisako Sakihama. HP has now launched a laptop wrapped in Hisako’s design which was inspired by the Okinawa sea and sky.

The HP Pavilion dv6 Artist Edition comes with a 15.6-inch HD 16:9 display with Flush Glass, an AMD Turion dual-core processor, high-resolution ATI video graphics, up to 6GB RAM (upgradable to 8GB) and up to 500 GB hard disk.

The new laptop also comes with all the normal ports and connectivity options including Bluetooth, WiFi, an integrated webcam and dual digital microphones.

Included with the dv6 Artist Edition is a Sea- and Sky-themed Microsoft Vista Desktop which features an animated clock and custom advisor dock with activity based icons.

Sakihama's design of sea and sky in Okinawa was chosen as the grand prize winner from the regional finalists by a judges panel composed of regional heads of creative at MTV, art directors at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, and industrial design managers at HP.

The HP Pavilion dv6 Artist Edition Notebook PC will be available in the UK from August 2009 at a recommended street price of £699.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
