Microsoft Reveals New Invisible XBox Controller: Project Natal

It looks like clear is the new black. We mentioned yesterday that LG has released a transparent handset, now Microsoft has unveiled the gaming control of the future at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles, and it’s invisible.

Project Natal allows you to use your whole body to play a game without being wired-up to anything… almost as if you were actually in the game.

The concept works thanks to a horizontal bar placed near the console that allows you to control game characters and Xbox media without touching anything.

Any movement you make  is detected thanks to a 3-D depth camera. Natal will also recognise different players’ voices through a set of microphones, for more personalised control over the team of soldiers you’re leading into battle.

Although still in the early stages, Microsoft has sent prototypes to all the main game developers, though we won’t expect to see it in shops until at least 2010.

Project Natal was not the only big announcement from Microsoft who also announced 10 new games for the Xbox 360, including Beatles Rock Band, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Tony Hawk Ride and Final Fantasy XIII.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
