Philips has recently unveiled the new SPC1330NC 2-megapixel, 90Fps webcam, promising HD quality for the home market.
The new video chatting Skype monster, comes not only with a 2-megapixel camera but also with an aperture of f2.0 for making the best of dingy lighting conditions.
The 1330NC comes with a still-shot mode too which means you can bump the megapixel count up to an impressive 8. There’s an 8x digital zoom and twin stereo microphones on board which should ensure crystal-clear, trouble free communication and there is also "Pixel Plus 2" and "Digital Natural Motion" to keep the picture on track and looking sharp.
With its sleek gloss black and silver design and a decidedly better spec sheet than the run-of-the-mill VGA webcams that seem to proliferate, this new Philips offering appeals more than most.
Sadly, it’s not all good news though; the advertised 90Fps frame-rate is only achievable for video usage if you drop the megapixel count a long, long way down.
Aside of the necessary drop in megapixel count to achieve the maximum frame-rate this is a tasty looking desktop webcam, and for the suggested RRP of £70 it’s not the cheapest, nor the most expensive camera on the market.
The release date for the SPC1330NC is as yet unknown, but if you’d like to know more keep a close eye on the Official Philips homepage.

It is great device what a screen shot function? I suppose you could just take a mini clip whenever you wanted to photo something. Would eat your footage time though. Unless you can get a really small digital camera too so carrying both round wouldn’t be too bulky
