LG has revealed that its thinnest LCD screen to date is nearly ready for inclusion in its new upcoming HDTV range.
The new screen measures a positively diminutive 5.9mm thick thin, which blasts its next thinnest models (around the 7mm range) out of the water.
OK, 7mm isn’t exactly a heifer in the first place but with the increasingly popular uptake of HDTV/LCDs the tendency to hang them on the wall is more prevalent than ever, so with that in mind, anything that results in a slimmer form factor and therefore less of an intrusion on the room is a winner with us.
The screen is said to have a 120Hz mode to reduce motion blurring that has historically been an issue for LCD displays, and will come with full 1080p resolution in screen sizes of 42 or 47 inches.
There’s no known release date of models packing this lightweight (in every sense) screen, nor do we have any pricing info, but we’re imagining that budget buyers may have a very long wait ahead if they’re waiting to pick up one of these slim-line beauties at anything other than early-adopter prices.
We’ll bring you more news on the panel, and resulting TVs when we have it.
