The rumour on the grapevine is that the new range of iPod Touch and iPod Nano will both be coming equipped with a camera.
The whisperings were posted on Hardmac and come from the ubiquitous "one of our sources" school of rumours. That said, there isn’t anything too ‘out-there’ about the new information, and thus it’s not all that unbelievable.
Hardmac claim that the new-style Touch and the Nano will both come packing a camera "similar to the iPhone", though specs or further details are currently unavailable.
They also announced that talk of the next-gen iPhone being slimmer, or even an iPhone Nano, as fallacious and that the next handset will be "exactly the same shape and size than the current iPhone 3G".
We’re going to reserve judgement on the legitimacy of these claims for now; it seems perfectly plausible to introduce a camera into the Touch, but the Nano? It seems less so. Likewise for the iPhone form factor; it’s certainly done well so far, but consumer electronics have a history of being redesigned, tweaked, and in the most part slimmed down, so to see no change whatsoever to the form would be more surprising than a low-fat version.
We should find out more about the iPhone rumours next month, and we’re expecting official details on the new iPod range around the end of Q3 of this year.
