If there’s one thing my other half constantly bemoans, it’s that kids these days have much cooler toys then the past excitement of GI Joe (look, his arms move!). One particular area that has grown in technological advancement, is the world of remote control fliers. The Alloy Shark RC Helicopter is testament to this.
The Alloy Shark is a three- channel helicopter, meaning that it will maneuver forwards and backwards, left and right, up and down. Basically wherever you want it to go, it will get there without taking a wide-sweeping circle that clears off the good crystal on mum’s mantelpiece.
Not that you may want to fly this thing in a terribly confined space, as it measures in at an imposing 38cm. Talk about a statement gadget.
I quite like the idea of having something on the larger side to fly about the place though. The trend in the RC world has seemed to ebb towards making devices smaller and smaller so they fit into the palm of a two-year-old. At least with the Alloy Shark, you can see that you’ve really received something substantial for your money.
Control-wise, this helicopter is nice and stable in the air, so you can be confident about not scraping it against a tree by accident. It also allows for more impressive aerial stunts.
The makers have even tweaked the Remote Control system to reduce interference from other RC users, like the kid next door.
It can be recharged simply by plugging into a power socket and a 1 hour charge will give you a decent 15 minutes of flying time.
If there’s a big kid in your house, the Alloy Shark is an RC flier that will definitely put a big smile on their face. I have a hunch it will have a similar effect on little kids too.
The Alloy Shark is available from Red5 for £50. Order before May 31st and you could even get a 15% discount using the special promo code: gaj-it5
