sWaP, the watch phone- now all you need is the spaceship or the talking car.

So with the recent release of the new Star Trek film, and a thousand repeats of classic sci-fi shows on UKTV Gold, my mind has recently been idly wandering to the future (understandable when its coinciding with writing my last ever student essay…). A future with space ships and talking cars and weapons made entirely of light and lasers.

Unfortunately, the immediate future holds none of those things (well, you CAN buy light sabers, but its not quite the same is it?). But lo- the good people at Red5 have got my ‘I want’ juices flowing by bringing out the sWaP.

Ok, so the name looks like a MySpace tag, but the product could not be cooler. Its a watch, with an analogue face, sits on your wrist looking unobtrusive, but what’s this? It’s ringing?! For concealed within the face is a fully working phone. And not just a phone, but a camera, video recorder, MP3 and MP4 player, a 1.5 inch touch screen and bluetooth capabilities, plus a handy little stylus for those of us with chunky fingers.

I. Want. One.

It doesn’t look too shabby either. Follow the link below to the Red5 site and you’ll find a video from ‘Something for the Weekend’ where they demonstrate the MP3 and MP4 players, plus the actual phone. It does look like you’d need a pair of ear phones if you’re not keen on the world hearing your conversation on loud speaker, but whats the fun in that?! You can’t run around town pretending to be infiltrating the Russians or a new Martian colony without your captains voice ringing out loud and clear! Not that I would… maybe…

I’d suggest blue tooth headphones by the way- connecting your ears to your wrist via cable is probably not a good look, however cool the sWaP is guaranteed to make you.

sWaPThe good news is that it comes unlocked and ready to accept your current Sim card. The bad news is that it’s not compatible with 3. Guess what network I’m on? *Sigh*

Now guys- when do we get the car we can summon with this gadget…?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
