If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, chances are that your home screen is filled with pages and pages of applications, making finding the one you want a bit of a chore. Well, we’ve come across Truphone which combines a number of other useful apps into one, making you look just that bit more organised.
Truphone was one of the iPhone’s first VoIP apps, which gives it heritage but not necessarily prestige. That comes in when you take a look at where Truphone have progressed since their humble beginnings.
Earlier this year, Truphone announced that it has moved to support Skype, Twitter, Google Talk, MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. Basically, if you chat or like your calls to cost you £0, this app will connect you to your friends, whatever programme you use.
The obvious benefits of this app is that it will save you money by routing your mobile calls over the internet. You calls can even be free when you call another Truphone or Skype user over Wi-Fi.
If your family is a bit behind the times with VoIP or you’re not near a WiFi connection, you can still make calls through Truphone at reduced rates. Granted though, this isn’t necessarily going to reduce your costs if you’ve got more bonus time than even Paul Merton could talk his way through.
For iPod Touch users, Truphone will also turn your Touch into a phone without the pain of a fixed contract. Nice. Indeed for this reason, this really is one of the more useful iPod touch applications.
We think that any app that saves you money and is free to download can’t be a bad thing. If it does some house work and tidies up your home screen as well, then it’s even better.

Hi Tazza,
Thanks for the great post, and the app recommendation. We are very happy with how both apps have been received, and although we can’t promise that they will do the house work, they can still do a load of cool things.
Just thought it might be worth pointing out that to use the iPod touch app to make calls you will need a headset or mic adaptor. We have a Truphone set available for just £9.99 – here is the link —> https://secure.easyanswer.net/truphone/.
Kind Regards,
Heath from Truphone HQ
There are better versions of both out there – Twitteriffic for Twitter and the real Skype client for Skype.
I don’t think these jack of all trade products work very well. It’s better to select the best app for each – the App Store makes that really easy to do.
