A novel use for your novelties

wolverineIf you’re anything like me then your computer has about a million cables coming out of it. Looking at my laptop right now I have a network cable, a memory stick, an ipod connection cable and a mini USB cable for uploading photos. And I’m sure I could find more if I looked around in the organised chaos that is the student bedroom. Unless you’re incredibly pedantic and have all the original boxes or bags that the cable came with (or you have lots of little twists of wire hanging around) then these cables are pretty much guaranteed to drive you crazy with their tangling up at some point.

What to do?! Well, Geeksugar may have found the answer- call your toys in to help!

This update satisfies both my geekiness and my cute quota for the week by the way.

Geeksugar has one of the Mighty Mugg vinyl figures that are pretty popular at the moment. I know places like Gamestation have been stocking up on the various series’ of these cute little figures. Anyway- she made use of the Wolverine one her boyfriend had sitting on his desk by using his claws as an ingenious cable tidy.

Cheaper than buying an actual gadget for it, easier than cutting a thousand cable ties every time you need a bit of extra length, and much more fun. It’s a great excuse to have toys on your desk- honestly boss, it’s to keep my cables tidy- and if you’re really organised then you can get all the Xmen or Star Wars characters and have a line of miniature cable holding slaves. You could pretend to be some kind of evil overlord.

And, as Geeksugar points out, you can keep your conscience clear and tell everyone you’re saving the planet (as well as ruling it). Mighty Muggs are 100% recycled materials. So your inner child has its chibi fill, and your inner grown up gets to feel smug. What could be better?

  • This is such a good idea to organise the spaghetti maze that lurks behind PCs and entertainment units. And it’s always nice to have an extra friend on your desk :)

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
