logos_imgMarch 19th saw Samsung launch their online movie store, Samsung Movies.

The new service is powered by digital movie retailer, Acetrax and will bring Samsung mobile users over 1,000 movies and TV shows from Warner Bros, Paramount, Universal and Momentum Pictures, including top titles like The Dark Knight, Tropic Thunder, E.R and Gossip Girl.

"Movies direct from the Hollywood Studios showcase our new Samsung touch screen phones such as the Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition with its industry leading high quality AMOLED screen", said Nick Turner-Samuels, Head of Content at Samsung Mobile UK. "We're very excited to be able to provide existing and future customers access to their favourite movies and TV shows across a number of different Samsung platforms. On top of this, it's all in superior picture and sound quality to the standard currently available in the market."

"Samsung's video enabled phones powered by the new movie service open up a whole new experience for consumers. We are delighted to be Samsung's partner in this major step that gives customers instant access to the latest Hollywood titles as well as lots of other content," said Rolf Uwe Placzek, CEO, Acetrax.

The only compatible handset at the current time is the Samsung Tocco Ultra Edition, which has a beautifully bright and clear 2.8" display and over 4 hours continuous movie viewing time.  Undoubtedly more handsets will be available throughout the year.

Samsung also plan to expand this service to MP3 and MP4 players, notebooks and Samsung TVs.

Samsung Movies will initially be rolled out in the UK and Germany, becoming available to other European markets later this year.

Downloads are available for either a 24-hour rental, starting at £2.49 or to own, from £4.99.
