In the current financial climate, money has become tight for a number of us. This doesn’t mean that we need to necessarily give up on our desire for a new Nintendo Wii or iPod accessory, it just means we need to be a bit more savvy in doing our homework to ensure we get the best price.
Comparison websites are a great way of letting technology do the hard work for you. But you still need to find time to sit at your desk, away from the boss or kids, to devote some search time into your new netbook.
This is where comparison site Twenga can help out. It’s the only comparison site we’ve found that has a dedicated iPhone app, so you can actually make use of your one-hour commute to and from work every day.
We downloaded and installed the app onto an iPhone to give it a quick test. Overall we were pretty impressed with its functionality and can see that this is one application that can be used again and again unlike the iBeer app.
I can say first and foremost that the Twenga iPhone app is very easy to use one-handed as you use your other hand to grip onto a pole for dear life on your bus journey.
The app’s search function is well designed and doesn’t seem to leave out any options, or more annoyingly, include random finds like a tea set amongst speaker systems.
The only negative to this application is that the iPhone keyboard (a bane to my existence) doesn’t hide after you’ve typed in the item you’re searching for. This reduces the search results that you see on the screen, but of course, this can be worked around by simply scrolling up and down and giving your thumb a bit of a work out.
Twenga does however, provide price comparisons as well as user reviews on the same site, which seems like a basic enough service, but it’s surprising how many other sites out there only do one or the other. There is a little community going on at Twenga that makes you happy to revisit and puts a bit of humanness amongst all the pound signs.
If you’ve not tried shopping comparison sites before, Twenga isn’t a bad one to start with as it’s gained 20 million users in just two years which I guess has to say something.
This may be tribute to the fact that Twenga does not limit itself to presenting the offers of its commercial partners which is a failing of a number of other comparison sites (mainly for car insurance) out there.
The guys at Twenga also say that they update their deals daily so you should be able to find the latest deals out there. This may be handy when new season sales start.
The site doesn’t just sell electronics, but has a range of items from clothes to kitchenware. Of couse we’re mainly interested in the laptops, games and sound systems.
The Twenga iPhone app is available in six countries including the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and The Netherlands and can be downloaded here.
