The iPhone goes cheap on O2

Good news for anyone looking to upgrade their phone, MP3 player or both. You do have to wait though until the magical date of April 3 when O2 have announced a reduction in price for the iPhone 3G.iphone5

If you’re willing to take out a contract, you will be able to get the 8GB iPhone 3G for “free” on the £34.26 per month contract, for 24 months. You’ll also get 600 free minutes and 500 free texts thrown in.

If you’ve got more videos than Paramount Pictures though and need the 16GB model, you can still get a deal with a “free” handset at £44.05 per month, for 24 months and the same talk time and text deal.

These contracts are notably longer than the usual 18 month contract, but when you buy a device as stylish and useful as the iPhone, it may not be that hard to live with.

This announcement follows AT&T’s introduction of a “commitment-free” iPhone in the USA, meaning we’re keeping up with the Jonses.

Another reason for the UK’s reduction in price is the rumour that operators are attempting to clear out stocks of the handset in anticipation of a new model speculated for launch this summer.

The 24 month iPhone 3G tariff will be available from O2 and the Carphone Warehouse.

  • The 24-month contract won’t be available from Apple shops/website. They only sell PAYG handsets.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
