The Peter Petrie Egg Separator- truely WTF?!

peter petrie egg separatorI have a healthy appreciation for incredibly weird gadgets, as you’ll no doubt have guessed by now. And the weirdest gadget I’ve seen so far this week has to be this one-

The Peter Petrie Egg Separator.

You’ve got to have a pretty good- or at least rather twisted- sense of humour to possess one of these gadgets. It’s the kind of novelty item you get for the person who has everything by the looks of it.

It does exactly what it says on the tin- separates the egg yolks from the egg whites, for all your baking needs (or if you’re just that fussy git who doesn’t like egg white!). It just does it in the most disgusting way possible.

It’s amazingly well crafted, don’t get me wrong, it’s just incredibly gross. It’s a head made of hand crafted ceramics with a cartoonishly large nose and impressionistic eyes. And you crack your egg into his skull and the yolks are kept behind nicely intact and then the egg white drips out of the nostrils. Like snot.

Yes you did read that right. You separate the yolk from the albumen by filtering it like snot through a ceramic nostril. If you can find a stranger cooking gadget then send it my way in the comments!

Apparently it works really well and has the potential to become an invaluable kitchen tool. Tasteless yes, but useful in its WTF-ness. If you still fancy that omelette when you know where it came from. On the other hand, it’d be fantastic for kids- we all know little boys are fascinated by the truly repulsive. Male students too actually…

Want to see how it’s done? Don’t say you weren’t warned, and make sure you’re not eating when you watch this.

  • This is brilliant! I love how the designers obviously worked backwards from the fact that egg whites bear a remarkable resemblance to snot.

  • It must’ve been a fun night when someone suggested it!

  • Ok, i’m all for Novelties, but in this case, think it’d have been better if they’d have taken a different approach when designing it. A more modern design. Do you know what i mean?

  • Something a bit less Laurel and Hardy eh? :)

  • Oh my days. It’s a brave marketing team who saw fit to indelibly associate bodily functions and food.

  • I LOVE IT. i first saw it on a tv cooking programme, they had to guess what it did. i really wanna get one for my mum. dose anyone know whey they sell them in the uk?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
