American retail chain, Best Buy will be introducing a new kind of vending machine in airports in Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis and San Francisco.
With a swipe of your credit card, these vending machines will dispense electronic consumables such as headphones, chargers, travel adapters, mobile phones, MP3 players, digital cameras and flash drives.
Chris Stidman, Vice President of Strategic Planning for Best Buy says, "The launch of Best Buy Express is another way for Best Buy to provide consumers with the products they need from a brand they trust, even while they’re on-the-go".
It sounds perfect for those who have forgotten to purchase travel adapters, or for buying that last minute gift. But how do other shops feel about this new rival?
It is hoped that the 'Best Buy Express' pilot programme will be rolled out by September 1st 2008. If these vending machines are successful enough in the US, hopefully one day they will be introduced to UK airports.
As a regular traveller, this would suit me down to a tee. Either that, or leave me penniless.
