Following the hype of MWC, ASUS last week announced the launch of the ASUS P835 smartphone. The title of their press release states ‘ASUS Raises the Bar for Mobile Web Surfing and Multimedia Enjoyment with P835’… so let’s take a quick look at what it’s got to offer.
The P835 is an attractive, black and silver candybar handset with a leather-style trim just below the screen. It weighs 148grams with a 13.8mm thickness.
With a 3.5inch TFT 65k colour WVGA touchscreen (800x480pixels) the P835 promises unprecedented clarity whether surfing the internet, watching movies or viewing photos.
A trackball and choice of a 12-key mode, half-QWERTY and full-QWERTY make for easy navigation and text input, whatever the task.
The handset uses a Qualcomm 7201 A 528MHz processor and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro. OS. It has 288MB SDRAM, 256MB ROM, a 4GB internal memory and microSD slot with SDHC support.
The handset has USB 2.0, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and GPS with A-GPS support. And the 1100mAh Lithium battery will give you 350 hours standby time and 6 – 7 hours talktime.
The P835 features HSUPA 7.2Mbps and WiFi with internet access via the Opera Mobile browser. The P835 also has the ability to function as a WiFi access point, sharing its HSPA with up to 10 devices, such as PDAs or laptops.
The ‘New Glide’ UI is an updated and enhanced version of ASUS’ ‘Glide’ UI. New Glide boasts new icons for improved user interaction and includes various themes for personalisation.
Features include Office Mobile (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc), Adobe, Windows Live,YouTube, Flickr, EziMusic, EziPhoto, Google Search and RSS Reader – to name but a few.
The phone has a 5.0mp camera – nothing fantastic in terms of camera phones, however good for smartphones as they seem to lack a good quality snapper. There’s also a front facing camera for video calls.
Unfortunately, not even the press release gave details of possible pricing or availability, so we’ll just have to wait and see!
