Tengu: Lipsyncs like Britney Spears

tenguThere’re approximately a million USB ‘friends’ available to you. Most will make some kind of noise and remind you that there is someone who cares for you, even if they’re completely controlled by the wire coming out of their bum. They do require attention though, most of them and will do anything to get it. I find they can be really distracting if you’re trying to work. It’s like having a child…

Tengu is the first I’ve seen who’ll interact in a novel and fun way, and doesn’t appear to mind if you want to ignore him. For when Tengu is attached to your computer he’ll happily sit and watch you doing your thing, wanting only one of two things from life. Firstly, he likes a good blow to the face. Literally. Blow on him and he changes facial expression, happy to be paid attention to. Secondly, he loves music. And like most of us when we hear a good song, he’ll sing along. He’s so easy to please too- whether you like Bach or Britney, Slipknot or Steps he’ll happily lipsync to whatever you’re playing. You can even train him to have one singing style for pop and another for R ‘n’ B, with loads left over for whatever else is lurking around your iTunes folders.

No software is needed, so he’ll make friends with anyone with a USB port, even if you do own a Mac instead of a PC. He even works with Linux.

Once the music stops, he’ll watch you for a bit, but eventually he’ll fall asleep. Either let him rest off the gig or wake him up by putting on more music or blowing in his face. Either way I’m sure he’ll be happy to see you, and your worth as a human being is revalidated, without having to do any of that pesky social interaction stuff.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
