The Selk Bag: Because it’s always cold outside, even in summer.

selkbag

I remember the good old days, back when I was Girl Guide. Camp fires, crafts, badges, chasing Boy Scouts… ah, good times. Unfortunately along with those came camping out in the freezing cold in a tent. A good sleeping bag was essential, and anyone who enjoys camping will tell you the same. Sadly, sleeping bags just aren’t all they’re cracked up to be. They get twisted around you in the middle of the night, and the ones with the built in hood pillows will inevitably smother you. And then there’s the issue of having to get up while it’s still cold. They might be awful to sleep in, but once you’re snuggled up nice and warm, rabid Brownies couldn’t drag you out of your sleeping bag. This is why Selk Bags were invented. They’re sleeping bags Jim, but not as we know it. The Selk Bag is essentially a huge, wearable sleeping bag. We spend 30% of our life sleeping, so now you can be ready to drop off at the drop of a hat. You don’t have to ever take it off, and can perform all your daily functions while still cosy. And you don’t necessarily need to be camping to get use out of a Selk Bag. Fancy a duvet day? It’s great for lounging around in. Need a really fantastic fancy dress costume? What could be better?! You can be the Michelin Man’s brighter cousin.

There’re now three different versions, depending on what extremity your camping needs cover. Version one withstands temperatures up to -8.4°C and comes in Yellow, Black, Green, Light Blue, Dark Brown or Dark Red; version two withstands temperatures up to -9.8°C and comes in Blue/Dark Blue and Green/Grey; and version three withstands temperatures up to -8.5°C (but is filled with duck down rather than polyester micro fibre for extra comfort) and comes in Brown/White.

So whether you’re settling down to sleep in rainy old England or the Kenyan desert (it gets really cold at night- believe me, I’ve been there!) you can curl up into a tight little ball in full knowledge that you won’t have to fight with the zip come morning.

Get cozy at Lazyboneuk.

The Selk Bag I took with me, as a volunteer chaperon, on a weekend-long wilderness hiking outing with the local Girl Guides proved itself. The night-time temperatures dropped by 30 degrees from the day-time high. Sure some of the girls laughed but they were the ones shivering around the campfire each morning.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
