After a surprising good run over the Christmas period, Apple’s sales have slumped so far this year according to analysts NPD Group.
Sales of Apple's range of computers fell by six per cent in January this year. On top of this, iPod sales are also down by 14 per cent compared to this time in 2008.
In particular, iMac sales have slowed, especially when compared to other PCs.
According to NPD, this is not only due to price but because of a lack of new models. The Mac Mini has not been upgraded in over a year and a half.
Apple has also not ventured into the currently popular netbook market and seem to have no plans to do so.
Steve Jobs said in October last year, “We don’t know how to make a $500 computer that’s not a piece of junk, and our DNA will not let us ship that.”
Maybe the recent slump will signal changing times for Apple.

I wonder how much of this is due to the recession.
I love the qoute from Jobs.
I think now that the special season of Christmas is over we’ll start to see the real effects of the recession on the tech industry.
