Overview

Dont you just hate it when youre in the middle of playing a game on your Nintendo or Xbox and your batteries run out of juice? You then have to go on a frantic mission to your local petrol station to get some replacements. Well, there is a possible new ‘greener’ way to get around this problem by investing in some Moixa USBCELLs. These are simple AA batteries that recharge from a USB port and could make separate recharging devices or cables for your gadgets a thing of the past. Could this be the killer blow to the battery market that memory sticks did to floppy discs?

Review

All I can say is that when I saw the Moixa USBCELL for the first time I gave it top marks for its clever and innovative design. Shaped like a standard AA battery, I simply had to flip the top of it, to reveal a USB connector and plugged it into an open port. With USB ports appearing on every PC, laptop and games console its makes it more convenient to charge. They also have plans to release batteries for all types of gadgets which means that theres no more lugging about unwanted chargers when youre travelling. Also it’s fully charged (90%+ in five hours) as opposed to your traditional charger which could take you all night.

So how did they perform? As soon as I got the batteries I put them into my wireless Xbox 360 controller and they gave me more than ten hours of gameplay. When they were running low I simply put them into the USB port at the front of my Xbox and left them to charge whilst I replaced them with some standard AA batteries. After a few hours I just swapped them again.

Whats even greater about this tiny innovation was the fact that I’m doing my bit to help conserve our beautiful planet. Youre probably thinking how can this tiny USB battery be helping our planet? Well, not only are we producing toxic wastage by the production and disposal of our long list of chargers but also Moixa have found that currently our high voltage power supply (120/240v AC mains), such as chargers, cables and adapters that we fill our homes and offices convert down to lower voltages for phones, MP3 players, which is inappropriate, inefficient and wasteful for modern needs. With the USBCELL we get a low-power, renewable-energy alternative through new reusable battery technology.

There’s an excellent demonstration about the USBCELL battery and what Moixa plans are for the future. Just click on the link below:
