WiiWare FPS to set new FPS standard

OnslaughtApparently Hudson’s First Person Shooter (FPS) Onslaught, which is to appear on the Wii’s WiiWare service, is set to revolutionize the FPS market that is according to Hudson of course.

It is the first FPS to appear on Nintendo’s download service and will include the most intense action you’ll ever find; strong claims coming from a game that has been designed with limited tools.

The story is to be a standard affair; it goes along the lines of:

“In the distant future, contact with a distant research colony is lost and your team is sent in to find out what happened. Upon arrival, you’re attacked by overwhelming numbers of mysterious creatures. It’s up to you and your squad to eliminate the threat and discover the truth that lies deep inside the colony.”

Sounds a bit Doomie to me, plus it seems that Hudson has taken alot of elements from Nintendo’s Metroid Prime which appear on the Wii early on in its birth. With aiming done via the Wii remote pointer but reloading is done by shaking the remote (won’t that interfere with your aim?).

Throwing grenades is done with the nunchuk. The game also dons four-player co-op game play.

Time will tell what this game will bring.  Many publishers have gone on recording saying the same thing, but then the game fails to deliver even an ounce of what was promised.

If it does succeed however, it might shake up the market, with developers competing to beat this one, just like the original Half-Life did years ago.

Downloaded this game yesterday. As someone who owns a 360, PS3 and wii, with 80% of my games on PS360 being FPS, after playing Onlsaught I am now convinced FPS games are far superior on the wii. I can’t help thinking what Halo 3 with wii controls would be like after playing onslaught. Very fun game for such a low price. This game has me even more hyped for the Conduit. Now I know control wise, future FPS on wii will kill anything my PS360 has to offer. No way you can kill all the enemies in onslaught using DA. Just made me think, horde in gears of war 2 would be a breeze with the wii-mote

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
