Electronic reading devices became all the rage last year, but people ended up being a bit on the disappointed side at how chunky the devices were. Not that War and Peace isn’t a heffer, but for something electronic, we’re used to slim, sexy looking devices. Amazon have taken note of this in their latest version of the Kindle.
The next gen Amazon Kindle 2 is now available for pre-order from Amazon. It features a sleek and thin design that makes it magazine-thin and lighter than a paperback.
Kindle 2 also has increased memory, giving you seven times more storage space and the ability to hold over 1,500 books.
It has improved battery longevity so you can read for days without recharging and faster page turns so can be as quick fingered as you!
The display has also been tweaked by the Amazon boffins to provide sharper images and clearer text for a better book-like reading experience. If you’re feeling a bit lazy or in need of recapturing your childhood, Kindle 2 will even reads to you, with “Read to Me”, the new Text to Speech feature.
Not everything has changed though. Amazon tried to keep the good features of the original Kindle, including being able to get a book wirelessly delivered in less than 60 seconds. If you’re not sure what you want to read next, the Kindle Store now has over 230,000 ebooks available.
We think the new design Kindle 2 looks great and will make those rainy nights in a bit more productive as you get to grips with Jane Austin or Dan Brown.
Kindle 2 is on pre-order ffrom Amazon or £245 ($359) and will ship later this month.

the Kindle’s main selling point for me is it’s text-to-speech feature
