Celebrities that Twitter About

Do you Twitter? If so you’re joining the wide-spanning ranks of Britney Spears, Jimmy Carr, Andy Murray, Lance Armstrong, John Cleese, Luke Wilson, Snoop Dogg, Shaquille O’Neal and Boris Johnson just to name a few.

Stephen Fry turned to Twitter when he got stuck in an elevator at Centre Point Tower last Tuesday. He didn’t get on his iPhone to summon for help- that’s what the red button in the lift is for. It was purely for his own entertainment purposes.

He and four others were trapped for 30 minutes and were saved not only by an engineer, but by other Twitterers to whom Stephen wrote at the end of his ordeal, “Another thank you to all those who kept the Blitz spirit alive.”

Also this week Jonathan Ross went off to a studio to meet Benicio del Toro and Britney Spears was excited about moving into her new home. Yes, they each Twittered about their experiences.

Twitter has taken over the celeb circuit by storm with people choosing to give glimpses into their personal lives without the help of the paparazzi or The Enquirer to skew points of view.

We mentioned previously that Barack Obama, has the biggest followings on Twitter – a whopping 237,444 people. His electoral campaign was boosted by his online presence to target younger voters showing the power of Twitter.

The fact that Twitter is designed to be mobile may play a big part in its popularity, as you don’t need to find an internet cafe or buy a widescreen phone to engage with others when you’re on a long bus journey or stuck watching a really bad Tom Cruise movie.
