Memory Stick reaches 2 Terabytes

If you’ve got a lot of photos, music, videos, other random massive files that you’d like to back up and keep in your pocket, then the latest memory stick from Sandisk and Sony may be for you.sd

Tentatively named, “Memory Stick format series for extended high capacity” (catchy, huh?) this new version will expand the “Memory Stick PRO” format series to achieve a maximum storage capacity of 2 terabytes.

This plethora of storage may open the doors for HD cameras and could even be the technology to mark the end of DV tapes.

This memory stick will reach a maximum data-transfer speed of 60 megabytes per second, making it one of the fastest-smallest memory card formats to date.

No release date has been mentioned for the Memory Stick format series for extended high capacity, so we’re not sure how long you’ll have to wait for it to hit shops. Though it may give you time to accumulate 2 terabytes worth of data.

  • As someone who’s spent a great deal of time shifting my digital life off localised storage and out onto various clouds, what I’d really like to see is these sort of tiny, high capacity devices having the capability of syncing with various online services..For example:

Google services, such as Google docs / Gmail contacts & email / Google bookmarks

Mobile phone back-up services like Zyb or Mobyko

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
