Motorola announce the W233 Renew: The eco-friendly handset

The W233, appropriately nicknamed Renew, is extremely lightweight at just 93grams and its casing, with green edging, is made from recycled plastic bottles. (Ahh so that's where my Pepsi bottles went!)  The phone itself is 100% recyclable.

It's a fairly standard phone that I doubt anybody will be wowed by.  The Renew is a dual-band GSM handset with miniUSB connectivity, a 65k colour CSTN display (128x128pixels) and a microSD slot for 2GB memory cards.  Its battery life will give you 9 hours talktime and 18 days standby time – that's actually pretty good!

The perfect mobile for that old fuddy duddy relative who 'just wants to make a phonecall'.  It has extremely limited functionability, but hey, it's helping to save our planet.  Oh, and Motorola have partnered with Carbonfund.org to carbon-offset the CO2 produced in the Renew's manufacturing process.

No word on pricing, but the handset will apparently be available to T-Mobile customers in the US.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
