Motorola recently announced 3 new handsets. One of the best, in my opinion, is the A3100, nicknamed the MotoSurf.
It’s an all-touch tablet handset with handwriting recognition, a trackball for navigation and a 2.8inch (240x320pixel) QVGA screen. In a rounded design, the MotoSurf weighs 119grams, with a thickness of 13.7mm.
The tri-band handset has 3G, Edge and WiFi connectivity and uses the Opera browser. It uses a Qualcomm MSM7201a 528mhz processor and runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional. The li-ion 1170mAh battery gives the phone up to 6.8 hours talk time and up to 12.4 days standby time.
It has 256mb internal memory with a microSD slot for up to 16GB. More than enough memory for all those videos, songs and photos.
It supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, WMA, MIDI and AMR audio files and MP4, 3GP, H.263 and H.264 video playback.
The MotoSurf features a 3.15megapixel camera with auto focus, video recording and a secondary, front-facing VGA camera for video calling and self portraits.
It has GPS, A-GPS, Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP and a miniUSB connection. Other features include Office Mobile, Java MIDP 2.0, voice memo, games and it supports instant messaging and email alongside SMS and MMS.
The MotoSurf features Motorola’s own customisable icon-based interface with weather and task widgets and is expected to have Facebook and YouTube apps.
It will be available in Asia and Latin America in the first quarter of 2009. No word on pricing or the availability of this handset in the UK.
