Review: The Acer AS5535 – A Powerhouse Office Laptop

OverviewAcer AS5535

Want a laptop that will run through your applications faster than bullet out of a barrel? Well with this laptop from Acer you won't be far off.

This laptop has to be the premium of office laptops that offers all the power you need to run your everyday applications with ease.

But why is this I hear you ask? Well that's why I'm here so lets get started.

Review

Style

This Laptop only comes in one style and that's the commonly known black case, grey keyboard combination we have seen for many years. I just don't think Acer have got their heads into the whole personalisation market yet, which is not that bad a thing considering more companies are starting to put an emphasis on looks over spec (such is life).

The monitor of this laptop measures out at a rather satisfying 15.6″ (not to sure what the .6 is about) which sits nicely in the middle of the screen market and should give you just the right sized view so that your eyes are not left feeling strained after looking at this screen for longer than 40 minutes.

While the keyboard on this model looks rather dull and uninspiring, it is however nicely sized so you wont keep hitting the shift or delete key instead of the enter key.

Under the bonnet

Now what comes under the ‘hood’ on this machine? Well with this being a laptop built for power it would only be right that it would have a dual core processor, and indeed it does coming built with an AMD Turion Dual Core Processor, which runs at 2.0Ghz that should give your applications the boost they need to be running at optimal performance.

RAM wise this unit comes with 4GB which is one of the highest amounts a laptop can achieve without paying through the roof prices. But please bear in mind that this comes with the dreaded Vista operating system so expect to only get 3GB out of the RAM for your own personal use. Remember, Vista has to use something for all those fancy window affects.

Graphics card wise and this is why this laptop has been classed as one for the office is that it comes with an Intel GM45. Now this card is not designed for gaming at all, sure it will probably do The Sims just fine but don't be expecting to be going around shooting bad guys/Aliens on this laptop unless you are able to manipulate the time space continuum around you in order to get these games playable.

Sound wise this comes with the standard everyday laptop sound system that will not leave you gasping for air at its greatness, but will not however let you down.

As for storage, 320GB is what you get with this laptop and with the hard drive running at standard speed, expect to get the everyday performance you get with an everyday laptop.

Otherwise you get a nice DVD+/-RW with Dual Layer DVD+R write capacity, 3 USB ports and the standard affair you’re use to.

The Gaj-It Verdict

Design 10/10
Usability: 9/10
Features: 9/10
Value: 10/10

We Say

With it being an Acer you know you're getting a good brand name, this will speed through all those Office applications like a dream even when more than one is open. This could however have been a good gaming laptop if it where not for the graphics card so steer clear if you're after shooting Aliens.

keeps shutting down imediately. This seems to be a common problem. I’ll call it what it is a lemon of a laptop. 1 out of 10.
