It seems that the Telegraph has reported that Gaming has been linked to a decline in kids’ language ability!
Strong words when considering that the majority of the UK population now has a gaming console of some type and with the Nintendo Wii bring a whole new view into the gaming market.
The following is a quote
“Toddlers could be screened for speech problems after evidence that many are so addicted to television and video games that they are failing to learn basic communication skills”
“The decline of the traditional family meal time, the long-hours culture in the parents’ workplaces, poor childcare with little stimulation and social deprivation are also being blamed”
It then goes onto say that a tenth of children in some areas cannot recite even a single nursery rhyme (what's wrong with the Mario theme?), while in extreme cases some don’t even know their own name (We have names…..I thought I was Death Knight101!).
Now I am all up for slagging the whole LOL and LMAO while trying to have a conversation with local chav’s down at Maccy D when all I am after is a Big Mac but blaming video games for the next generation of kids language still is appalling. Should it not be the parents fault for allowing their kids to play these games more than actually spending time with them while they are off clubbing.
It seems that once again video games are being blamed for parenting short falls, maybe the government should introduce a law stopping these people having 10+ kids and sticking them in front of the latest GTA while they head off down to the pub with their kids’ dole money.
