Christmas has been and gone, leaving us somewhat “penny-less.” However, there is a way out for many of us hoarders who save or make money from old mobile phones.
Studies have shown that 23% of phones are thrown away and 28% are put in a draw never to see daylight again. What's more, only 20% of Britons recycle their phones at all. So let us make 2009 the year that we recycled…And get paid too.
I know its hard to depart with a phone after you paid a lot of money for it, and its hard to come to terms that your get a small amount back, but at least its better than a smack in the face with a wet kipper?
After searching the internet, I have found the website Fonebank.com a very useful site, paying amicably indeed. Although the best-kept weapons are perhaps the iPhone, which fetch around £100 plus, Fonebank.com are happy to take whatever – even your old Nokia's, come on and cash in!
With over 10,000 phones recycled last November, Fonebank is also accepting PDA’s and MP3 players too. This is partly because there are many hazardous materials which can harm the environment, in a battery alone so it is important to recycle. Moreover, many African nations cannot buy brand new phones and Fonebank helps them to achieve this goal to allow them to buy second-hand mobiles.
Fonebank wrote £200,000 worth of cheques in November, get yours now!
Fact File:
More than three million phones exchange hands every month and six million phones around Christmas time.
