Review: The Acer One A110AB

Overview

With the likes of Facebook and MSN taking over the internet it was only a matter of time until laptop developers started making machines made to do just that, internet surfing. Add that with the huge arrange of mobile internet connections available for people on the go and you get the latest style Netbooks.

These machines offer the user the facilities to view their favourite pages and chat to their friends from a laptop so tiny and light you would not even know it was there.

So how does the Acer latest entry shape up?

Review

Style

Being available in a stylish midnight blue color, this Netbook can caters for people who love blue and it’s not just any blue but midnight blue. Its shiny as well which gives it that extra ping and with it weighing in at a very light 1 kg (which is the lightest so far in its class) this Netbook can be carried around without you breaking into a sweat or even noticing its there.

This Netbook comes with a 8.9″ screen that whilst giving you nowhere near as large a viewing display as an everyday laptop, this meets its need perfectly but it might leave your eyes a little strained after staring at the screen for a longer period of time.

Under the bonnet

As with almost all Netbooks this comes with the Intel Atom Processor that is so tiny it makes Netbooks possible. The one in here runs at round 1.6GHz this speed can be found on most other models of Netbooks but this is the energy efficient one for all those environment fans out there.

Now this Netbook offers a whole 512MB of RAM which is a comfortable amount for running an operating system and everyday internet tasks.

Otherwise this comes with a rather low 8GB Flash Hard Drive, which might leave you wanting more if you’re downloading alot of huge picture files off people. However with Flash Drives running alot faster than normal hard drives and without having the need for moving parts, this makes the old days’ old hard drive failures a thing of the past; this is the future of hard drives.

And to help with your internet and MSN applications this comes with a webcam, memory card reader so you can transfer all those files from your camera without having to have a degree in computers. This model comes with the Linux operating system that might leave some of you a bit confused, but I do believe Acer offer a Windows XP upgrade for extra cost.

But with all these options that are supposed to increase battery life, this Netbook supports up to 3 hours of battery time. Now this is a rather standard affair but with other Netbooks offering at least double this at only £25 more this might leave this Netbook in the dark.

The Gaj-It Verdict

Design 10/10
Usability: 9/10
Features: 7/10
Value: 7/10

We Say

For a Netbook this will come with everything you need for internet, MSN and other such related activities. Just remember a Netbook is designed for exactly that and nothing more and you will be satisfied with this model from Acer. If you're looking for something that offers you more battery time you might be better looking elsewhere.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
