ASUS M70 Review: Packed with a Whopping 1 TeraByte of Space!

Overview

The ASUS M70 is definitely a gamers laptop. Jam packed with a whopping 1 TeraByte it definitely shows that it is a massive player in the laptop market as it was only six month ago that 1 TB was huge for a desktop PCs let alone laptops. So with that in mind, let's find out to see if this machine suffers from gluttony or is as fast as nippy as Carol Voderman on a copy of Sudoku.

Review

Coming fast on the heels of the G70 (which came with a 650GB hard Drive!) this machine not only nearly doubles that but allows the user to save up to and over 350 movies, hundreds of thousands of tunes (don't ask for an exact figure) and up to half a million photos (again it's not even worth thinking about).

This laptop also comes with a rather fast (and rather nice) Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5Ghz processor, which means that this Asus M70 can keep up with even the most powerful Desktop PC’s.

My main ongoing reservations with laptops were soon stopped dead in the tracks with this laptop. This was because not only does it come with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 1024MB (while being a middle range card packs a hell of a punch) but also 4GB of DDR2 RAM. This means that the M70 can handle everyday tasks as well as plough through even the most demanding of games on the market and with a DirectX 10 support, the graphics card is future friendly.

Other than that this laptop comes with the standard features, a 17 inch screen (not the smallest for a laptop but with these specs you’ll need it) and a Blu-Ray drive so you can watch the next generation Hi-Def movies with ease.

The only snag I can find with this laptop was that it comes with Vista 32-bit. Which means that unless you want to void this laptops warranty and install a 64-bit operating system onto it, this machine will only use 3GB of the 4GB of RAM it comes with (or you could of course wait until the warranty runs out and then install a 64-bit op system onto it).

Full System Spec

  • Intel® Coreâ„¢2 Duo Processor 2.5 GHz
  • 4GB RAM
  • 17″ WXGA+ Color-Shine (Glare-type), High Brightness (Dual Lamp), Color-Shine (Glare-type)
  • ATI Mobilityâ„¢ Radeon® HD 3650, External 1024MB VRAM

The Gaj-It Verdict

This laptop packs one hell of a punch and will give most desktop PC’s fighting for dear life. However, as it includes a 32-bit operating system, which means only 3GB is used and a whole 1GB paid for but unused, I think that this is only tiny little hindrance that I'm sure we can all live with.

When will this laptop be released? all i keep being told is that it is no longer available and i should seek alternatives. I am begining to wonder if this is a marketing ploy by asus to get more publicity.

  • The laptop is now in stock, click on the PriceRunner link within the post to find out where you can order yours.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
