The Sony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing may not sound like party-central, but there is an interesting piece of news that has leaked from this event and hinted at a PS3 price cut for early next year.
SCEE President, David Reeves, reportedly announced that "SCEE will be getting more competitive in price from March 2009 onwards." This comes after Sony’s refusal to lower the price of its popular console in the lead up to Christmas, unlike Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
A reduced price in March next year would coincide with the release of Killzone 2, and from a marketing perspective, would make sense.
This leak is still at rumour stage though, as it was revealed by an annonymous whistleblower and not Sony themselves. Sony’s only comment has been, “We do not have anything to announce at present and we do not comment on rumour and speculation.”
So not a confirmed “yes”, but far from an outright denial of news that many gamers who have felt the money pinch will rejoice at. At least it’s a heads-up to save all of the store vouchers you’ll get for Chrissy!
