I bet when you get home from work, turn on your low-energy light bulb, leave the heater off, and take your fast 4 minute shower, you feel pretty good about doing your bit for the environment. Well have you stopped to think of just how much electricity your mobile phone charger is potentially wasting just to juice your handset? No, me neither.
Apparently the energy used can be quite a lot, which has prompted the big mobile phone players: LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung and Sony Ericsson to join together to create a common energy rating system so that we can choose sensibly when making our next phone or charger purchase.
The system uses star ratings to allow you to easily choose the most energy efficient charger for your mobile at a glance.
The green group have pointed out that chargers still consume electricity when the phone is disconnected from it, but it is left in the wall socket. They have approximated that two thirds of the energy used by mobile devices is wasted like this.

It’s great to see that mobile manufacturers are getting involved to help reduce the amount energy we consume by using our chargers, however now we need to do our bit by taking our chargers out of the wall sockets when not in use etc…because I know that even I sometimes forget to do this.
