It was only yesterday I posted that NEC has created a chip capable of reading Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats. The only thing missing was the pick-up technology. Well guess what happened today? Yes, LG announced the very first dual-format player to be released in early 2007 in the U.S but that’s all they’ve said. More details may be unveiled at next week’s Consumer Electronics Show.
LG initially only supported Blu-ray and also said that this decision will cause controversy. Well good on you LG, it makes perfect sense.
Is this the end of the format war?
Did you really think it would end there, now LG’s neighbours have added a twist to the story. China has unveiled their plans to create yet another format~. We know how good China are at producing cheap goods so we will have to sit on this, it is rumored to be HD-DVD compatible. So don’t let this put you off buying HD-DVD movies.
Let me know if you know more!!
