BBC iPlayer is expanding its reach and thanks to a new pact between BBC and Sky, iPlayer is now available on Sky+ HD and Sky+ boxes.
Since BBC iPlayer is already available on other pay-TV platforms such as BT Vision and Virgin Media, Sky TV will now have a new weapon to deal with competition. Sky TV is also taking a couple more steps to combat competition. It announced that its Sky Anytime+ would also be getting ITV player soon.
BBC, on its part, is excited about the new deal. It said, "A core BBC value is to reach all audiences on a universal basis, so Sky's plan to make Anytime+ available to customers regardless of their Internet provider is an important development in helping to bring BBC iPlayer to around 5 million new homes in 2012 - at no extra charge.”
Sky is also modifying its terms and conditions. Now, its satellite TV package subscribers are eligible to access Sky Anytime+. The new feature is also ISP neutral, which means that if you subscribe to Sky's satellite TV packages you will be able to use its Video on Demand service, irrespective of the ISP used by you. earlier, Sky was offering its Sky Anytime+ service to only those subscribers who also opt for Sky Broadband service.

Sky Anytime+ is now available to everyone. You need to activate the service via your MySky Account and then plug your sky or non-sky router into your Sky+HD box and you can download programmes and movies (depending on your package) from Sky for FREE to your Sky+HD box’s HDD – you know, that 500GB partition that was left unused from your 1TB box?
The content, in my opinion, is a bit rubbish and a bit difficult to navigate. There is ITV player but the content seems to be only what Sky have decided you can view. BBC iPlayer isn’t on it yet :( If it is, I can’t see it? All I want is Catch-up TV for all terrestrial television channels on my TV. Come on Sky, get it sorted.
