Internet browser market is still being dominated by Microsoft's Internet explorer, but its market share is constantly declining. Google Chrome, on the other hand, seems to be on an upward trajectory. If its current pace continues, then it is likely to overtake Internet explorer this year. Google Chrome currently has 27 percent share of internet browser market.
Internet explorer is not the only browser threatened by Google Chrome. Mozilla FireFox is also on the losing ground. The browser has already lost 5 percent of its market share. It currently holds 25 percent of the total market. However, the biggest loser is still Microsoft's Internet explorer, which now holds 38 percent of the market pie, down from over 70 percent share it had in 2008.
There are several reasons for Google Chrome's popularity. The browser itself is lightweight, ultra-fast and free of clutter. It is also tightly integrated with various other Google services such as Gmail and Google Docs. The internet search giant is also not sparing any cash in promoting its product. Looks like, its efforts would be duly rewarded this year. Industry experts have projected that Google Chrome may become top browser by mid of this year.
Apple's Safari has also increased its market share marginally. The browser is now used by 6 percent of the users. Fifth spot is occupied by Opera with 1.98 percent of the market.
