Mac App Store Crosses 100 Million Download Mark

Passing a 100 million milestone is a big deal so seems like it is time for Apple's Mac App Store to celebrate. Mac App Store may not be as high profile as its more charming cousin iOS App Store, but the poor cousin is not so poor after all, as it has just crossed 100 million download mark. Apple is certainly happy about the achievement. The App Store was launched about a year back. iOS, on the other hand, was launched three years back and now has crossed 18 billion downloads mark.

Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, said, "In just three years the App Store changed how people get mobile apps, and now the Mac App Store is changing the traditional PC software industry. With more than 100 million downloads in less than a year, the Mac App Store is the largest and fastest growing PC software store in the world."

And it's not just Apple, but its various partners are also excited about the opportunities provided by the store. Karim Morsy, CEO of Algoriddim, said, "In less than one year we've shifted the distribution of djay for Mac exclusively to the Mac App Store. With just a few clicks, djay for Mac is available to customers in 12e countries worldwide. We could never have that reach through traditional channels."

Mac App Store is available with Mac OS and serves as software store for computers running this operating system.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
