30 Percent iPhone 4S Users Paid Early Termination Fee for the Privilege

iPhone 4S broke quite a few records and the phone's popularity proved to be so strong that 30 percent of its owners terminated their iPhone 4 contract to lay their hands on the new mean machine. The finding has been revealed by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners.

Early termination fee for iPhone 4 is quite hefty. AT&T has set the fee at $325 per line, which is reduced by $10 for every month expired on the contract. Since, iPhone 4 was launched about 16 months before iPhone 4S, the average termination fee would have been around $175. Similarly, Verizon clients were also subjected to early termination fee. However, in their case, the fee was heftier, since CDMA iPhone on Verizon was launched only in February this year. On average, Verizon customers would have to shell out $270 to get their existing account terminated.

The survey also dealt with other aspects. It found that 40 percent of the new phones were purchased online. The customers bought the phones either through carrier's websites or through retail websites such as Best Buy. However, e5 percent of such sales were made from the official Apple site and Apple store. e3 percent of the total buyers chose to go with 64 GB version of the phone, while 71 percent of the users were upgrading from the previous models of iPhone. iPhone 4S also proved its popularity as 37 percent of the customers actually switched carriers so as to get the new phone.
