Apple and Google may indulge in fierce competition, but there are some things which turn out to be the common enemy for these companies. According to some reports, both the companies have refused to submit to ESRB. The initiative is the result of collaboration between CTIA and The Wireless Association and Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB).
The consortium stated that six app stores have agreed to comply with CTIA-ESRB guidelines but Google and Apple has refused to do so. The new rating system will vet the app submissions and would rate them on a five point scale. The extreme ranges would be "everyone" and "adults only". The rating system has been developed by The Wireless Association and Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The program has been developed to help parents in choosing games and apps for their children and other such purposes.
David Diggs, Vice President for Wireless Internet Development at CTIA, said, "It made sense as an industry to provide a ratings mechanism that will provide consumers with information about the content available on the apps."
While Google has tried to explain its decision, Apple has simply refused to comment. Google issued a statement saying, "We've put a lot of effort into Android Market's rating system, which now works well globally, While we support other systems, we think it's best for Android users and developers to stick with Android's existing ratings."
