HTC Commands US Smartphone Market in Q3: What's Next?

Recently, there were reports about Samsung sprinting past Apple to become the world's biggest smartphone vendor. However, right in the shadow of Samsung, there was another emerging company forming a history. In the third quarter, HTC surpassed everyone else to become the biggest smartphone seller in the US. Since US is one of the most important and crucial markets for smartphone, HTC's accomplishment sure demands big accolades.

According to the market research firm Canalys, HTC grabbed the top spot by shipping 6.4 million devices in the third quarter. Out of these phones, 5.7 million were HTC branded phones, while the remaining ones were T-Mobile co-branded handsets. The company widely outshipped Samsung, which shipped 4.9 million phones and Apple, which was responsible for the shipment of other 4.6 million phones.

Canalys, in a statement, claimed, "This is an awesome achievement for HTC, which has built a premium brand in a highly competitive market in just a few short years. It now has a strong range of 4G Android products, with devices ranged by each of the major carriers, and offers some of the most compelling and differentiated products found on the platform today."

The report also delved deep into the achievement of Samsung, which is now the biggest smartphone vendor globally. Samsung grew its shipment 252 percent on year over year basis. It shipped 27.3 million phones worldwide during the third quarter of 2011. In this process, it also booked the second highest quarterly shipment in the history. The record is held by Nokia, which shipped the highest number of smartphones in the 4th quarter of 2010.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
