After the arrival of new captain on HP ship, the company has made quite a few important decisions. First off, it announced that it has no plans of abandoning its PC business, while another rumor was about the future of WebOS. It was widely surmised that HP would eventually be shutting down WebOS for good. There were several reports claiming that the company has already slashed the jobs related to WebOS. However, now HP has come out to quash all these rumors.
Todd Bradley of HP made a late night appearance on Bloomberg to deny all such speculations and claimed that the speculations is merely and 'unfounded rumor'. He also said that the operating system is a prized software and that the company is looking to find more lucrative ways to effectively use the potential of WebOS. Well, selling the software to the highest bidder is certainly one effective way of harnessing the potential.
HP had acquired WebOS as a part of its deal with Palm in April 2010. The company had generously splashed $1.2 billion for the transaction. No matter, what the company says, the resurrection of WebOS seems highly unlikely. The company had to hold the fire sale of its tablet TouchPad, which was based on the operating system. Mobile operating system segment is getting more and more crowded and now even Microsoft has entered the market in revamped form. So, keep watching this space for latest update of WebOS.
