Facebook App for iPad is Here: We Take a Look

Until now, iPad App for iPad was conspicuous by its absence. But, the long wait is over as the world's most popular networking site has finally unveiled its app for the world's most popular tablet. Until now, we had to use either Facebook's iPhone app on iPad, which just didn't scale or some third party apps like MyPad, which, though, provided a lot better experience than using iPhone app on iPad, were still not the real thing.

But finally, Facebook iPad app is here and Facebook engineer Leon Dubinsky has described the experience as "fun". On Facebook blog he wrote than the app provides ""the full Facebook experience, right at your fingertips." The new app is feature rich and is more visual than textual. It includes features such as profiles, photos, messages and chat. On the left side, you will find the navigation bar to search for apps and games.

The new app supports full screen photo viewing and gaming. Facebook engineer Dubinsky is particularly enthusiastic about the new and improved picture viewing feature and said, "Photos really shine on the iPad. They're bigger and easy to flip through, like a real photo album. It's like having a slideshow with all your friends and memories, wherever you go." You can use the usual iPad gestures for zooming and swiping the photos.

Though, Facebook iPad app has been in works for quite some time, but there were other rumors as well. Facebook is said to have been working on an HTML 5 project called 'Project Spartan' and it was assumed that the social networking site is looking to circumvent Apple App Store route for more autonomy. Though, Project Spartan is still believed to be in the developmental stage, but the launch of iPad has shown that Facebook is not looking to sever its ties with Apple.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
