There are plenty of social networking sites around but only Google+ showed enough promise to be a worthy competitor. But now, it looks like even this competitor is losing its edge while Facebook is going on its upward trajectory. According to a report released by Chitika, Google+ seems to be unable to sustain the heady levels it enjoyed during the first few days of its public launch.
After a few months of close experimentation, the networking site went public in September 20. In next couple of days, the site's subscription levels exploded, however, very soon it was back to pre-public days as about 60 percent of the users decided to log off. During the initial days, the networking site saw its subscription growing at the rate of 1200 percent a day.
Google does not seem to catch a break when it comes to social networking. It has launched a number of social networking initiatives, but none of them had reached the level attained by Google+, but now even the latest phenomenon seems destined to die a slow death. According to the experts, Google+ does not offer anything new and hence users are reluctant to leave their older home, Facebook, where they are already settled with their friends and relatives. A couple of bad moves on the part of Google have also contributed to the downfall. Google's insistence and heavy handed approach for making everyone use their real names has also irked quite a few users.
However, not all is lost for Google+. The site has yet to celebrate its one month anniversary and it has already accumulated many more users than Facebook and Twitter did before their one month milestone.
